The best tool we have used is Google Maps. The measure tool makes it easy to get an approximate length that is needed as well as figuring out the best placement of the pivot point to maximize the watered acreage.

Yes, the solar system runs the pivot only. A separate power solution is necessary to run the pump. This makes this pivot ideal for gravity fed systems which does not require a pump. The pivot does have the ability to turn a pump or valve on from the control box.

Keep in mind that the estimates below are approximations that assume the pump is close to the pivot and there are no great elevation changes from the pump to the end of the pivot.
